Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune de Strasbourg Reviews
One of the most significant churches in the city Sep 12, 2015
We always love the underdog, don't we?! And in a city that has the towering Notre Dame Cathedrale, why would we even think of visiting another?!
This church is one of the most important buildings from the art historical and architectural viewpoints. It got its name, "Young St. Peter's", because of the existence of three other St. Peter's churches in the same city: Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux ("Old St. Peter's"), divided into a Catholic and a Lutheran church, and Saint-Pierre-le-Jeune catholique, a massive neo-Romanesque domed church from the late 19th century.
The insides are filled with the most interesting of murals. Amazing doesn't begin to describe it. The one that impressed me the most was one with a series of soldiers all holding various European flags. I couldn't visit the cloister that day as it was closed for refurbishment.
overall, it's on the main drag and doesn't take too long to visit. Plus, it's awfully quiet! The best kept secret of Strasbourg that I just told you!
