This was my first St. Particks in Savannah - it is the second largest in the country (2nd to Chicago). It really started the thursday before - tourists started packing into town (between 800,000 and 1 million visitors) and because I live downtown I got to see and hea it all. Festivities on the riverfront were intertaining but being in a crowd of that many (extremely) intoxicated tourists was a little uncomfortable. The drunken party continued into Sunday morning leaving many sleepless nights and some very stinky streets. If you want to stay in a hotel prices are very high. Parking is a real problem and is relatively expensive as well. As it is Savannah, it is not terribly expensive when one considers cities like DC, LA and New York but for the south, it is very expensive. The parade started at 10 am and went till about 1:30 pm and was pretty amusing. 700,000 people packed the parade route at least and was probably the only family oriented event of the long weekend. Overall it was interesting...
