Big and Impressive Saint John's Cathedral Jun 23, 2010
St. John's Cathedral is the Anglican Cathedral in Brisbane. It's located in Downtown and easy to find. The building is huge and very beautiful.

It's a mixture of the French and English Victorian Gothic architectures. Actually is one of the last neo-Gothic building to be completed in the world. This has been built in 3 stages, being the last one 1989-2009.

There are guided tours daily, but if you don't want to wait for a group, you can do it just by your own, which is what I did. They will give you a map, so you can walk through this historic building at your leisure. Pictures are allowed, but without flash ;)

Here there are the dimensions:

Length external: 79.2m

Width external: 37m

Height internal: 18.2m

Height to top of West End Spires: 49.7m

The building is impressive outside also the contrast of this Gothic Architecture with the modern buildings and lovely parks is perfect!

Inside the walls are beautiful too, also the high ceilings and of course the windows. The stone-vaulted ceiling is the only one of its kind in Australia. The Nave is huge and the side Chapels are charming.

If you are in Brisbane, take some time to visit this gorgeous Cathedral. It's breathtaking and you will admire a jewel of Architecture.
