Saint John Vacation Guide
The island of St. John is located in the Caribbean Sea and is a part of the United States Virgin Islands. It is located only 4 miles from Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (also in the USVI) and Tortola which is located in the British Virgin Islands. St. John is accessible by water taxis leaving from both St. Thomas (1/hour) and Tortola (1/day).
Christopher Columbus is credited for being the first European to locate the island. Columbus named the chain of islands “Once Mil Virgenes” or Eleven Thousand Virgins which is how the chain received the name “Virgin Islands”.
In 1956 Laurence Rockefeller donated a great deal of land to the National Park Service. As a direct result of this transaction, this piece of land has remained undeveloped which adds to the natural beauty of the island.
The island is home to Trunk Bay which was voted by National Geographic as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This beach has a very unique underwater feature. Along the reefs there are plaques under the water’s surface, which explain to you what fish and coral are indigenous to the area. This is pretty handy for the many snorkelers that flock to the area.

Today we woke to a full campground! Being the 4th of July weekend, most of the sites had filled up, and we had neighbors in the tents beside and across from us. 24 hours ago, we practically had the campground to ourselves, and now it was packed! Tyler and I had a…

Today's plan was a visit to St. John so we agreed we'd get an early start. By prior arrangement Noah called at 7 to say they were up. We ate breakfast together and were at the car ferry dock at Red Hook by just after 9. Loading the ferry was a real fire drill as the "Mister B" appears to be a conve…
