Large room and great location Mar 28, 2016
We stayed at Saint James Albany for three days in March. Taxi from the airport was 50 € flat rate. The check in process was fast and we got room 633. The room seemed a bit dated upon entering the room but at the same time it also has a pretty cool layout as they have kept some of the old wooden pillars and this was actually the center of the room! It might be a pretty fancy feature to look out but also dangerous at night as it was easy to walk right into it in the dark. The room had a large king size bed that was way too hard for me, lots of wardrobe space, a small safe, no ironing board or iron, a desk and a small fridge. The small fridge was stocked up quite well but when a Coke costs 6.5€ it is much better to buy it somewhere else. The room was a bit dark and I would have preferred if there was more lighting – even if there were two windows in the room with a view to a courtyard. A small flatscreen TV was mounted on the wooden pillars and were facing the bed. Wifi was included and worked according to my expectations.

The toilet was in a separate small room – again with some of the wooden pillars. Due to this there was only a tiny sink in the corner which was not very easy to use. The bathroom on the other hand was large, had two sinks and a large shower area. We got two robes and slippers and the towels were on a heating rack. There was a bad smell coming from the bathroom and maybe that is why housekeeping placed a towel over the shower drain.

The breakfast was pretty good for the price. For 14€ there was a buffet breakfast that was not totally epic but it contained all you need of bread, fruit, cereal etc.

In the basement there was a pool of decent size and a sauna.

The service at the hotel was good but we were a bit disappointed when we called housekeeping on a Saturday and said that we wanted to wash some clothing and we were told that this was not a service during the weekend. When we asked when the clothes would be ready they replied that they didn’t know and that we had to call the concierge!

The location of the hotel is excellent. Right next to Tuileries Garden, a few steps to the Tuileries metro station, short walk to the Louvre and with lots of shopping it the area.

All in all a good hotel - but with room for improvements. The smell from the bathroom was not that pleasant, the walls were a bit thin so it was a bit noisy and we were disappointed that we couldn’t get some clothing sent to laundry on a weekend. But we enjoyed the large room and the location.

Lower price luxury accomodation in Paris. Jul 21, 2010
Fanciful hotel with more room than you could ask for.

Paris is famous for offering very small rooms to holiday goers. But when you pay the premium I guess you expect more and this hotel certainly delivered.

Our room was a split level mezzanine (dining and seating up top as well as a second toilet).

Polite staff, but I did hear them complaining about a number of Americans (in French) at one time for not even trying to speak french. The lesson is simple. At the least, learn how to say you don't speak French and how to ask them if they speak English.

However on the downside, this hotel did one thing that really annoys me.

Stating you have a King Bed because there are 2 singles pushed together is not correct. This is fine if you put a King mattress bumper on top and some mechanism to stop the beds parting, but in all seriousness, do hotels not expect couples to be having sex when on holiday?

If my reserved English manner doesn't hold me back next time I have this happen I might find myself asking a hotel receptionist if they have ever had sex on two single beds before when they ask why this is an issue...!

If you can afford it, indulge. The Swimming pool and Sauna are nice, but as you would expect the spa is extra.

Breakfast is also very nice.

If you require an iron and ironing board, be sure to order in advance of requiring it as they took their time delivering it two days in a row.

The 4 star hotel St. James & Albany - city centre of Paris Apr 03, 2010
The St. James & Albany hotel is an exellent 4 star hotel, located in the heart of the city, 1st district. It offers all the amenities that one needs.

I've visited Paris for 8 times [and it's still fun as ever] on different budgets. My second last visit to Paris I stayed in a junior suite for 3 nights; a two story suites with a sitting room.

The hotel looks great, but the suite or just my suite (as far as it concern luxury) was a bit behind fashion - the bedding looks like it's from the '80 or '90, and there no LCD television, not that I required, but for those into luxury could be disappointed, it's not as exact like the pictures from the website.

However, the service is excellent, there's a (free) chocolate service at around 8 pm. Don't miss out when you're there :) The staff is friendly and the hotel checks all other boxes. It's also the only hotel in the city centre with a swimming pool. It's on a A1 location close to the Louvre, and the metro station is right a cross the street.

The St. James * Albany was not my choice of hotel; I thought it was quite expensive [about €525,- a night] and I was slightly disappointed as the hotel is rather similar to a 3 star hotel in London or Amsterdam.

I reckon that when you're out the whole day exploring the city and doing fun stuff, you don't need to spend that much for a bed, 2 or 3 stars hotels in Paris will do just fine!
