Saint Barbara Church Kutna Hora Reviews
One of the most beautiful Gothic churches in central Europe. Dec 26, 2010
Today Kutna Hora is just a small town with 21.000 inhabitants, but with a glorious past. In the 13th century, it had an economic boom due to its silver mines and was the second most important city of the empire (after Prague). The wealth of the city was based entirely upon its silver mines. Unfortunately in the 16th century the silver ended and the city had a big economic crisis.
The biggest proof of the glorious past of Kutna Hora is the Saint Barbara Church. Dedicated to the patron saint of the miners.
The original design was for a larges church, but the construction depended, on the prosperity of silver mines, which became much less productive.
It's still one of the most famous and beautiful Gothic churches in central Europe and it's a UNESCO world heritage site.
