The first tower in St. Augustine was built by the Spanish in the late 1500's to function as a watchtower, not as a lighthouse. The tower was replaced by a building that was built, rebuilt and enlarged over the next 200 years by the Spanish. In 1821 Florida became a U.S. territroy. In 1824 a lens wa…

Our original plan had us staying the night down near the Space Center but we are presently a full day behind after spending the extra day in New Orleans, so today we decided we could make up a little by driving on north. We got all the way to St. Augustine before I decided to say enough. Not a whol…

We went to Ripley's Believe It or Not on Saturday, and then spent the rest of the sunshine time walking around from the BnB to the Fort " which was a good 20-30 minute walk back. I said the rest of the sunshine time, because we are starting to walk back when it starts dripping... then sprin…

We took a day trip to the St. Augustine lighthouse. It was more beautiful then I had imagined. We had an amazing day. The sky was clear. It was like $8 to climb the 219 steps to the top. I would have climbed to the top if my Step-mother could have made it. The Lighthouse was standing tall in the be…

Each year I make time to vist St. Augustine. One of my favorite things to do there is to find a nice spot on the waters edge and watch the blue water sailboats set and weigh anchor. This small city is a great place for boats to rest while sailing up or down the East coast of the United States. …

Chimney Rock in NC is like an 18th century town 1 hour southeast of Asheville. Very quaint for those who love to get away from it all and the stressers of everyday life. Also, imagine hiking where "The Last of the Mohicans" was filmed.

Casey and I went to St. Augustine for our "semi" honeymoon. We are still in school (at the University of Central Florida) and couldn't go out of the country, but we will soon! :o)
Casey has a hand held digital that came in handy on this trip. We only had a few days, so we couldn't do everything we wanted to do, but since St. Augustine's so close, we can always return...
