Saint Arnaud Vacation Guide
Saint Arnaud or lake Rotoiti, as all the locals call this small hamlet on the shores of the Lake Rotoiti, really consists of a good Hotel, several homestays, a garage, a general store with cafe, and a very nice tea rooms, where you can sit and listen to the wild birds sing and the ducks eat up scraps of bread.
Lake Rotoiti is part of Nelson Lakes National Park, it has unique flora and fauna, natural beauty and lots of historic adventure trails. A short five minute stroll from the township takes you to Lake Rotoiti famous for its scenic beauty and its magnificent trout fishing. In the winter there is a great narural ice skateing area just beside the highway, plus two wonderful ski fields in the mountains, close at hand for the skier.
There is also a facility for School Children and Schools to rent out for outdoor activites including staying in snow bound huts, survival tecnics, tramping around the lake and many boating activities.
New Years Day sees a speed boat regatta held on the lake every year, which brings a great crowd to watch.
A very pleasant place to visit summer or winter.

This morning was bright, beautiful and sunny and a bit on the cold side. My plan was to see Abel Tasman, but by now I had come to my senses. The park, which is mostly a beach park, is nice, but it is geared for a summer visit. I was much more interested in backtracking to Ne…
