Ho Chi Minh City Feb 19, 2014
I did Ho Chi Minh City on the last day before head to Airport for 8pm flight. 2 late 40s Viet guys approached us while we are on the way walking to Saigon Central Post Office. Offered us city tour for USD 30 and we went for negotiation and settle with USD 18. We kinda lucky that we found this guys as they speak good english and were bring us around for almost 6 hours.

They stopped and wait for us until we return from each place.

1. Notre Dame Church, Reunification Palace, Coffee Break at Saigon River, War Museum, Pagoda Temple, Passio Cafe for light lunch, Ben Thanh Market and finally dropped us at hotel. Its really fun ridding a bike with this guys in the town and You can easily find them around every corner of HCMC Town.... Have Fun on your holiday guys....

Ho Chi Minh city in a nutshell Jul 14, 2010
Stayed at Liberty 4 (Que Huong), which is at 265 Pham Ngu Lao Street, District 1. You'll find other hotels like the Elios and Liberty 3 on the same street. The city reminded me somewhat of Phuket Town, except that you get a lot of motorcycles (yes, one of the attractions actually), no beaches and definitely no tom yam soup.

What you do get are small streets and alleyways that lead into backwater bars and pubs, mostly crowded with foreign tourists sitting on really short stools, having a go at local delicacies and cheap beer (local beer includes Saigon beer). If you have to take a cab, try Vinasun or Mai Linh, but do remember to have some Vietnamese dong handy, coz I paid one driver in US dollars expecting exact change, but he tried shortchanging me 75% of the return value in Vietnamese dong (thinking I wouldn't convert). So be careful.

Most of the citizens in the service industry in Ho Chi Minh (not sure about the rest of Vietnam though) would expect tips from you, and they normally leave it to you to decide the amount. There are some estimates so best is if you ask the concierge the general figure or do some research online. I think a 10-15% tip of the value in general is the norm.

Saigon has a great mix of cultural and educational experiences. I would

highly recommend stopping by the War Crimes Museum, and taking a day

trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels. There are a lot of great examples of French

Colonial architecture, the post office and the Opera House were two

that stood out for me. To start an evening, the Rex Hotel has a great

rooftop bar.

This was our second stop and to our dismay we actually stopped at the port of Vung Tao (I don't know if I spelt that right).  The port is about 2.5 hours from Ho Chi Minh so we got a bit worried…Saigon, not some small city out side of it.  We tried to sign up for the Ho Chi Minh
