Sai gon Sports 3 Hotel Feb 25, 2011

Very good and quiet hotel Aug 03, 2010
We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City by train in the very early morning, around 4 am. The day before we already decided where we wanted to stay. So we took a taxi from the station to the hotel, where we got out of the taxi. But the hotel we wanted to stay was totaly closed and when we rang and knocked on the door there was no one coming. In the mean time our taxi was gone. So there we stood in the middle of the night. There were some weird guys on the streets and one of them asked us if we needed a hotel. He knew a cheap one, we only had to follow him. But he went into a very narrow street, we didn't really trust the situation on that location. So we decided not to go allong with him. Suddenly at the main street there was a hotel and the door keeper was sleeping on a stretcher inside. We had to go upstairs and the main entrance was actually on the first floor. We tried it there and he let us in. This was the Saigon Comfort Hotel. And it was comfortable! The door keeper went upstairs with us to show two rooms first, so that we could decide which room we prefered. We had a great room on the upper floor (the 5th), from where we had a great view over the city of Ho Chi Minh. The room was a little bit bigger than average and the bathroom excellent. The bathroom was also quite big and had a good shower with warm water and good presure on the water coming out. The beds were very good, I slept like one of the best night in there. Down stairs was the restaurant or place to have breakfast, actually it was on the first floor of course. The restaurant was small with heavy chairs and tables. There was not much space between the chairs at two different tables. The breakfast in there was very average, but good.

During the day the location of this hotel is very good. Close to interesting places to visit, like a big inside market. Compared with the night that we arrived, it was a crazy chaos in the street in front of the hotel. Like almost every city in Vietnam. But it a little bit dodgy in the night and started already in the evening. People who offer you drugs on the sly when just walking from souvenir shop to souvenirshop in the evening. So that's a bit of a pity, but I think common in touristy areas. But there are many places to eat and also a lot of souvernir shops around. For during the day there are also very good tour operators in the area for booking day tours or longer tour to i.e. the Mekong Delta and other interesting sights.

We went on a two day Mekong Delta tour and it was possible to leave our big backpacks in the hotel, part of the good service!

In short, a great hotel to stay in Ho Chi Minh City! I can highly recommend it by everyone going there!

Thanks for the smile Lizzy. Vietnam was not really a must see before I went. I had never been in Asia before and we were thinking about going to South East Asia. Obviously Thailand was our first choise, but we prefered to see every highlight. So we started searching for another country over there, also because Thailand is where everyone goes to. That brought us in the end to Vietnam. Without any regret! :D
