As its name probably suggests, Saigon Central Post Office is the chief post office in Saigon (or Ho Chi Minh City these days!). It’s next to Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica and was constructed during the French occupation nearly a century ago. It is built in a gothic style and was designed by Eiffel, the famous architect who also built that rather well-known tower in Paris. Although this doesn’t seem like much of a site to visit, it really is. The building is rather beautiful to go through, and although the locals are incredibly busy dispatching their letters and making their calls, the beautifully constructed building seems to escape their attention. The whole effect is like a time warp and certainly the nicest post office I have been to anywhere. It was great to send my postcards off here too!!
