Almost felt like being in a hotel! Nov 07, 2011
The hostel was quite difficult to find but once you do find it, you'll realize it is actually a great find. It's on the back alley at the far end of Pham Ngu Lao street, so that means you can have a good night's sleep even if you're in the backpackers area of Saigon.

I stayed both in a dorm room and a private room. They were spacious, very cozy, and impeccably clean! They even provided toiletries and towels and changes them everyday which is quite unheard of in hostels. Oh and they also provide breakfast. It seriously felt like staying in a hotel!

They provide free Wifi and if you don't have a laptop with you, you can use two computers in the lobby for free. Oh and they have a software so that you can access Facebook even if it's blocked in Vietnam. :-)

The staff were also very commendable especially the all-around guys there who clean the rooms, change your sheets, prepare your breakfast, and everything else the receptionists are not expected to do. When I left, one of the guys helped me carry my stuff and to get a taxi to the airport. He need not to, but he insisted. I then gave him a tip but he adamantly refused with a smile which I thought meant that he is just happy to do his job.

So if you're on a budget but still would like to have some comfort, Saigon Backpackers Hostel is the place to go. I simply think it gives you the best value out there.

dorm room with ac Aug 07, 2011
Make sure you have the reservation number after you have booked online as when I wanted to check in, it took sometimes for receptionist to check the booking without reservation number. The room I stayed was a dorm room, cost USD 10 per night. It has air-con, the bed was comfortable, the location is good and quite . The staff is friendly and helpful. They provide soap, shampoo and towel. Thanks to the AC and the location, I slept like a baby.
