Rustic Italian May 12, 2008
Austin has a great new Italian restaurant located not far from the Capitol: Sagra Italian Restaurant. The owner of the restaurant describes it as "traditional rustic farmhouse Italian." The restaurant is located in an old house, so has a very comfortable feel to it. It has a great wine list to accompany a fine menu.

I had a nice caprese salad as my starter -- nice ripe tomatoes and fresh basil, a beautiful mozarella and some aged balsamic vinegar. For my main course, I went with pasta (I was carbo-loading for a big bike ride the next day), a really good linguine carbonara. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the pancetta was made in house at the restaurant, and it was served beautifully with a raw egg yolk atop the pasta. A beautiful presentation that was delicious. For our wine, we chose a nice Montepulciano de Abruzzo. It was a great meal, and it's a wonderful new addition to the Austin restaurant scene.
