Sagada Igorot Inn Mar 11, 2013
I knew that it won’t be easy to find the place to stay in Segada because we were in the middle of some kind of holiday and buses were constantly full of people. Ride to Segada was not pleasant at all. There is only one (probably not but locals in Banaui did not want to tell us about any other transportation) kind of jeepney that goes towards the Bontoc every morning and we had to take it. Bontoc is larger city in the nice valley covered with rice fields. Our drivers were trying to extort money from us so I explained rest of the travelers that there is an option that costs almost three times less, and that is if we go out in this city and switch the bus. We all did that and driver was visibly unhappy that he is not going to get money that he planned on… After additional hour and a bit more, good winding road took us to the Segada, really beautiful little town in the middle of the evergreen forest and surrounded with some amazing scenery and raced to find place to stay before all rooms are taken.
We did not even try to go to the guesthouses that were listed in the books because we thought that there is no room in those places, so we just looked for the other options. After checking in more than 10 inns we found only two that had some rooms and because we were walking up and down the road during the noon sun, that second room looked perfect.
Sagada Ignuit Inn cost us only 500php for double room which is good price and we took it without any barging. It is large square building laying on the right side of the road some 200m down from the market and right across some reggae bar. Lady boss of the house used to be in military and you can see her pictures in the uniform and lots of pictures of James Dean and Elvis Presley all around… She is a fan :)
Everything in this Inn is a bit larger than needed, kind of bigger is better idea… You get into large lobby that hosts some wooden figurines (very well made) and bunch of computers that you can use (WiFi is free and you will have it in the room) if you don’t have your own computer. Usually you wont see anyone in the place aside of the kids playing video games. Lady owner lives in the room on the right side of the door so you can easily find her. Behind the lobby, large room opens in some kind of dining hall or maybe place for weddings or gatherings. It looks like restaurant because of the tables scattered around, but I have not seen anyone eating there.
Large stairs take you up or down from the lobby area (Inn is built on the slope and has couple floors under the road and couple floors above) through the large hallways to the large room… Room was good, basic, two beds, comfortable, nothing to complain about. It seemed to be pretty secure so we took it without much thinking. Restroom was outside, and you can already imagine LARGE restroom with lots of wasted space and with shower area a bit separated from the toilet and sink. Man bathroom did not have hot water (lady complained about men breaking her heater all the time…) but in the girls bathroom everything worked just fine. So we used only girls shower heheh
All in all, it is good place, good people to stay with and very cheap. We moved after couple days to be in the same place with some friends, but otherwise I would not go away from this inn.
