Personal Safety - Milan Central Station Oct 09, 2011
I have just returned from a Business Trip to Italy, and feel that Buddies should be aware of the diminishing safety aspect when travelling through Milan Central Station. I am a seasoned Business traveller and have visited many places around the world, and am also a regular visitor to Milan, however this visit the general level of safety around Milan Central Station was noticably unsettling. Like many railway stations in Italy Milano Centrale have a number of automatic ticket machines, and if you are unfimiliar these can take some little time to navigate around. There are now a number of 'Friends' who want to help you with these ticket purchases, do not understand 'no thank you' and can become intimidating. This, in addition the number of drunks, general unsavoury characters, and people relieving themselves in Public, make the travelling experience uncomfortable. At nighttime the area in and around the station is even more sinister ( I need not go into details) The Italian Police have a large presence throughought the area, but appear to be unable to move these people from the area or control their activities. For those who are unfimiliar or of a nervous disposition the general experience is not the best -- Please be aware and ensure your valuables are safe, and not on show, pickpocketing is rife, and please keep yourselves safe.
