This is a keeper! May 27, 2010
Price for room for two with one big bed: tsh 26000 with fan, or tsh 35000 with airconditioning. They also have singles.
Included: brakfast (banana, small glass of juice, tea/coffe, bread w jam and butter), towels, soap, toiletpaper.
Hot water in the shower, allthough the shower itself doesn't necessarily work properly, so be prepared to bucket-shower.
The staff are all very friendly, and it feels safe.
It's not allowed to wash clothes in the rooms, but they provide laundryservices: tsh 200 each item.
The beds are kind of saggy, at least in the rooms with one big bed.
No nets, but there are nets in front of the windows, and very few mosquitos make it inside.
Fans works like a wonder.
They have a TV and comfotable seating by the reception.
They sell the cheapest (cold) water I've come across here: only tsh 500 for 1,5 ltr.
Overall, I totally recommend this place if you need a cheap place to stay.
BTW: I have the impression they have recently been improving the place by painting it.
Right now the building next door is partly a building site, so be prepared for a lot of noise during daytime.

A buddy and I were on vacation in Tanzania, and looking in our lonely planet we decided to stay at the Jambo Inn. Sadly when we arrived 3 hours later then the bus company said we would Jambo Inn was fully booked. Nearby is the Safari Inn though. They had rooms available. The cost was about 20 USD for a double room. They have both resident and non-resident rates, my friend and I are residents of Kenya, so it didn't fly here in Tanzania. The fans are in the room so he don't get to hot, screens over the windows so no skeeter (mosquito) problems. Shower and toilet in the rooms, hot water advertized but never bothered to check the humidity is so high, that it was nice just to take a cold shower. Breakfeast is included in the price, but it is just 2 pieces of toast, some watered/iced down juice of a unkown flavor, and your choice of tea or coffee. The guys at the front desk didn't seem to know anything, but most of the questions we asked were about the Ferry to Zanzibar. In the end if you need a place just to crash and everywhere else is booked head there, otherwise I would suggest the Jambo Inn where the people seemed more helpful and knowledgeble(?). Also paying in USD is cheaper then paying the non-resident rates in Tsh
