At the westcoast of Palawan there is a river that had considerable trouble in finding the sea. Too many mountains obscured the view, in particular a mountain shaped like an elephant. So in the end the river just dived under the mountains to the sea. Palawan is very proud of its Sabang Underground R…

A land teeming with diverse terrestial and aquatic life, Palawan is the fabled ecotourism frontier of the Philippines. Its breathtaking landscapes and thriving coral reefs shelter a wealth of endemic and exotic species. At the heart of Palawan lies Honda Bay, just off Puerto Princesa City the provincial capital. Puerto Princesa is the jump-off point for visitors to two of this country's renowned UNESCO World Heritage Sites:Subterranean River National Park and Tubbataha Reef Marine Park.

Just flying back from Palawan and with one more week to go I am tinkering with the idea to fly to Vietnam. With flights so cheap here it is hard to pass up but I also know that it wouldn't give me enought time to really see much of the country. Been here now for almost 3 weeks and there's still so …

Sabang has about 45 boats registered for taking passengers about 5 km (20 min) to the Underground River, but only a few charter boats registered for taking passengers to Port Barton, and El Nido. The voyage to El Nido is very scenic. Depending on the weather, it takes 7-9 hrs. The ROYJEN offers Bay Trolling along the way. A 1-2 night stop-over at Coconut Garden or Port Barton is highly recommended. This voyage is for the young and adventurous, and not recommended for children.
