Sa Pa lies in a valley between the mountains and is the centre of the most colourfull ethnic minorities of Vietnam. There are many visitors in the town, from Vietnam and abroad, who come admire the sophisticad garment of the Hmong, Red Dao and Tay.
The town also is a base for trekkings to the distant villages of the region, where the minorities live.
A warning about Sa Pa: by his popularity it has become rather corrupt. Especially the Black-Hmong woman stand in front of the hotels and cling passerby. With sweet voices they want to buy "blankies". But you have to go there, it is well worth. Hire a
cheap guide and go on foot to the villages in the inland. The garments of the ethnic minorities is really brilliant.
