Great hostel, prefect location and very clean! Sep 05, 2010
Very nice place to stay. This hostel has two place where you can stay: in their main building which is facing the river or on the boat which is on the river. I stayed 5 nights on the boat and I really loved it. Everything is organized, clean, there are lockers and staff are even kind enough to keep your valuables like laptops in their office. The crew working at the restaurant-bar on the ship are really really nice people. From the dishwasher to the cashier or the waiter, everyone is always open to help you and serve you with their greatest smile. Food is also excellent, very very good and the night ambiance is really cool with the super nice view on the city and on Gamla stan. Going there during sunset is such an experience, I couldn't stop taking pictures. Cleanliness of the washroom and shower is almost perfect, no complains about that. I would defeinlty recommand this place for people who are going to Stockholm and are on a budget traveling.

Quaint Alternative Hostel in the heart of Stockholm Sep 25, 2008
I had originally made my reservations for this location months in advance, and had paid in advance for 2 in a coed dorm. The price per person was very reasonable at the time (around $50) for the location: in the heart of the city, just across the waters from the Gamla Stan (the Old Town) and the Royal Palace. I just checked the price today and it is $66, so not much has changed.

However, when we arrived late in the morning, the front desk told us that every bed was booked and even though we had paid in advanced, the room are given out on a first come first serve basis. They suggested that perhaps we should go and see about the town, and then come back in the afternoon to see if any room had opened up. Well, nothing to lose so we make a day trip of the city and return in the late afternoon, only to find out that our situation has not improved much. BUT, they said there was 1 room that was available if we wanted it.

You see the hostel is actually in two locations, in the main building along the waterfront, AND in the retired sailing vessel docked next to it. All of the rooms on the boat are below decks, but the captain's cabin on top of the boat was unoccupied. They said that they normally dont rent it out, but it was the only available room they had. Conveniently it had two beds inside so we grabbed it and ran hahaha. That was only the begining. Actually, you have to climb a metal ladder up to the very top of the boat, and as it is in a scandinavian harbor, is cold and slightly damp. I had no problem climbing up the ladder but i worried that my mother would have trouble...as it turned out she did not, although we got some pretty wierd stares from the other occupants as we made our way to the roof of the ship. The room was really a closet, and even for a couple of short asian people, we had to curl our legs up to fit into the beds hahahah. Still, it was quite an experiance, as it was unexpected, and turned out to be an adventure in itself.

It was not terribly cold in the cabin during the night, though it was crispy in the morning. Our little tower room on top of a boat turned out to be the begining of our voyage into the city, and served as a docking point quite literally. If you decide to stay here, opt for the boat...it will provide a delightful alternative to the usual hostel offerings and offers a quaint and old world feel to an old world city. The staff did everything within their ability to accomidate us, and we were very greatful ^^.
