STEINHOBEL retospective design exhibition Johannesburg Reviews
An amazing expo on the work of one of the SA's top designers! Oct 21, 2010
I enjoyed this amazing exhibition hosted in the FADA Gallery of the University of Johannesburg (Faculty of Art Design and Architecture) on its last day.
Designs showcased cover a broad range of products, manufacturing and material types from carbon fibre chairs to Soccer World Cup trumpets and Cobra taps.
Brian Steinhobel born in 1960 in Johannesburg is one of the SA's top designers drawn to Art at a very early age and started creating in many diverse ways as a young boy(works of 1972-1977 of the King Edward High School are displayed)and he was a great sportsman(swimmer, scuba diver, former member of the underwater Scuba unit of the South African Navy specializing in attack diving and underwater demolition).
All his works are interesting but I was perhaps more attracted by his Blaide perpetual pen, handcrafted in carbon fiber and designed as much for optimal writing comfort as for aesthetic beauty, his sharkPod 1992,an electronic scuba shark repellent designed for the Natal sharks board and the Cobra taps.
