Diving the famous Coolidge Jun 02, 2010
This was one of the best diving trips I have done. Taking Virgin from Sydney to Port Vila and then on Vanuatu Air on to Espiritu Santo. The transfer time in Port Vila is significant, so don't book anything where you have less than 3 hours time to transfer from the inetrnational terminal to the domestic. Customs/Immigration take forever, and Air Vanuatu has queues out of the airport building in their domestic terminal. Once in Santo, I found easy transfer to Beachfront Resort which is one of the better places to stay in Loganville. Diving the wreck was AWESOME, a must do for any keen diver. They go down to 65 metres (less if you are scared) and offer full wreck penetration. The wreck is simply amazing, especially the porcelain statue 'The Lady" hidden inside. You go all the way to a little dark chamber within the wreck where this little treasure is waiting for you, it feels like discovering a real treasure. Simmply amazing. Good marine life, corals, excellent sight. Make sure to check your equipment as not all diveshops offer high quality equipment, and some dont even check it. I had to miss out on one dive because my regulator was defect and they didnt have a spare one. This can be avoided by bringing your own (highly recommended as the gear on the island is 3 stars at best) or by thoroughly checking before you go in the water. I was diving with Aquamarine Divers and their gear surely wasnt better than 3 stars, if that. But the guides and divemasters were competent and knowledgable, and the dive was simply AMAZING. There is nothing to do in Luganville at all, no Bars, no nightlife, so be prepared to stay in your resort.
