Amazing budget resort! Oct 07, 2009
I landed on Koh Phan Gan two days before the full moon and was being turned away by every resort. Exhausted I somehow stumbled on SP resort. I got a bungalow with fan for 300 baht/day. At first I wasn't thrilled to be staying there as it was as basic as it gets. There was bugs in the room, it was a little dingy, and it seemed easy to break into the bungalows. I ended up sticking it out because I had no choice. There was a great array of guests here and everyone was friendly. The owner, Som, was always around and ready to help you out. The food was great and just as affordable as the room. The bungalows are literally right next to the beach with a great, serene view.

The one part of Koh Phan Gan I didn't like was how almost everyone on that island is trying to take as much of your money as possible. The attitude of SP Resort really made up for it and was a really refreshing place to stay for almost no cost. Highly recommended for the budget traveler.

i stayed here for 6 weeks when i first came to the island. mode85 pretty much said it like it is :)
mostly unchanged for 20 years. good service (if u deserve it) they dont want ur money, so you cant follow that usual traveller line of 'oh hey look at all my baht, theres thousands of it, wow hey, wake up already, im inarealhurrycause im on holiday, and ive gotta do heaps of stuff to take my mind off the fact im on holiday'
service attendant wakes up. opens eyes. blinks. ferrang says 'u SPEAK ENGRISH'
service attendant blinks.
ferrang rolls eyes. blinks 3 times. twitches. says. COKA COLA. COK A COL A. yah? yes?
service attendants eyes go wide. realisation spreading across a once stupid uneducated face. enlightenment shining in her eyes. she points to the counter.
ferrangs eyes go wide. steam shoots from top of crown.
ferrang realises he/she is talking to a 16 year old.
steam subsides. ferrang storms away, wondering why the hell chose to take the only fucking 2 weeks off work, in a place where the only person who knows what the fuck is going on is him/her self....

meanwhile back in the kitchen, evil mutterings and lewd female laughter subside.
service attendant walks back to the dining area. looks across at customer now sitting at table next to fish and turtle pond. smiles faintly. looks up and to the left, at the ceiling rafters. rolls eyes a little as if clearing her uneducated hase. looks back at customer, no light now in her eyes. customer looks a little sad.
'abit rude eh? wasnt he?'
attendant says 'mm he no want coke?'
'nah he wanted coke hey, i think'
'but he say no'
'yeh, but he dont understand, he wants to pay u'
'oh. ooooooh. ok ok where he go?'
customer shrugs. sips coffee. 'i think. umm. i think maybe he ran away too fast for me to see'
'i pointed to the books'
'yeh i know, but he didnt know about them i guess, i was gonna say sumfin but he was all *blablalbblabla bla* too fast for me to say'
'mm i go sleep now'
'me too'

*crowd chuckles softly*
curtains close.
actors walk off stage.

this is a summary of a show i saw recently at one of the little local theatre companies. i think maybe they have seen this sort of thing go down before, having been here for many years, and knowing ppl who run resorts...... is prolly a true story ;)
