The only decent place in Southern California that I've heard has good diving is Catalina, a large island off the coast of LA. You can take a one hour boat ride for about $20-30 from San Pedro or Long Beach. The water can be cold in the winter. The aquatic life isn't tropical, but there are one of a kind kelp forests in this region that are unique to the world.
Catalina Island is cool. It used to have a booming Casino in the 20's and was a famous gettaway location for celebrities and LA socialites. |
