wise choice...interesting as well :) Jan 14, 2017
Bore Hostel is one of a kind! It is in fact, an inactive commercial boat. So, it has a story to tell. The ship was built in the 60’s and had sailed from Turku to Stockholm, Sweden. The town people loved this ship until it stopped operating. On May 13, 2011, the S/S Bore was anchored for good on the Aura River just beside the museum ships of the Forum Maritime Center. Interested guests or parties may visit the museum with additional fee. We didn’t check out the gallery, though.

Borea Hostel is not only a lodging facility but one of the city “attraction” (^.^) that the local tourism makes a thorough campaign to invite visitors to a "lifetime experience."

I decided to book a room for one night not only because Borea Hostel was the cheapest, but simply out of plain curiosity.

This hostel offers cabins with private bathrooms. However, if a person is claustrophobic or simply like a wider space; they should not stay here. The room is so compact, that if two people are both standing and one of them need to go to the bathroom. He/she must walk sideways to have that space to walk on. There’s no more room to put our luggage. Likewise, the bathroom is just as tiny and skimpy as the bedroom. There is no window either.

Beds are narrow, but the mattress is comfortable. Sheets are fresh and clean.

We wanted to use the (free) sauna in the morning but couldn’t access.

I am not sure if parking is free since there is a huge parking lot across the port area. Check the hostel's website for this information.

Turku Castle is 1,650 feet (500 meters) away to/from the port. I must say, this medieval castle is a must-see when in Turku, but that is a separate review I will share later.

Guests can use the communal kitchenette. Guests have access to the utilization of the fridge, microwave, and the coffee maker. Just next to the kitchen is the small living room. T.V. set is always on, and guests are welcome to watch.

Turku city center is 1.2 miles away. A walk in the afternoon to the town is a good idea if you want to see the view of the river.

The bus stop is just a few minutes’ walk also to/from the hostel.

Sure, there is no enough living space in their accommodations, but hey, their breakfast offer will fill a starving tummy to the brim!

We didn’t have issues as far as the chamber space, but the up and down staircases to traverse before we arrived at our room is what pissed me a bit. So, those who have knee or foot medical problems, this will not look good on them.

The staff team is friendly, and they speak English.

My recommendations? Well, the hostel offers the best value for its price. For budget travelers, this place is a wise choice.
A museum ship next to our hostel...
The included breakfast!
Our beds (see how tight our space …
