Ryokan Maizuruso Hiraizumi Reviews
Ryokan Maizuruso Jul 12, 2009
Maizuruso is a small traditional ryokan located a short walk from the train station and very close to the Motsu-ji temple which is one of the main attractions in Hiraizumi. The ryokan is a fairly small little place with a few rooms upstairs and the main dining area downstairs. Communication can be a bit of a challenge because like most places of this sort the people running it only speak Japanese. But they are quite helpful and with a bit of sign language you will be able to communicate all right.
The toilets and bath is shared and the bath is traditional Japanese style. The same goes for the rooms which are furnished in traditional Japanese style with only a low table, a couple of pillows and a TV. The room is equipped with tatami mats and you “bed” is a futon.
The meals are the probably one of the main attractions of the place. It is traditional meals consisting primarily of fish of different sorts- both raw and fried fish. The fish is supplemented by a bit of meat which is cooked at the table but a candle while you eat the fish part of the meal.
The breakfast is also mainly consisting of fish and rice - but it is complimented a bit by some egg and cabbage. The meals are great - though I personally still got some problems getting used to fish and rice as part of my breakfast meal.
