A Ryokan in Kyoto Mar 23, 2005
Ryokan Kohro is a traditional Japanese-style hotel or inn in old town Kyoto. The rooms are covered with tatami mats and futons are put out each night. Guests sleep on the floor is a very comfy and warm futon! The rooms feature an anteroom to keep luggage and clothes out of the way and Western style bathrooms. Ryokan Kohro has two public baths, too. You’ll find a yukata outfit in the room waiting for you to relax in. The ryokan has a dining room (floor seating) and meals are available. I recommend trying the Japanese style breakfast. Delicious! There are lots of restaurants of every kind near the hotel for other meals.
Ryokan Kohro is centrally located in the old city. It’s a short walk over to the Teramachi and Sakae shopping arcades, Kawaramachi-dori shopping street, and the Nishiki food market. The Museum of Kyoto and a post office are also nearby. The Kyoto Metro is at Karasumi-dori and buses run along Karasumi-dori and Oike-dori. (Bus passes are available at the front desk.) Try a ryokan as an alternative to a standard hotel on your trip to Japan! Part of the Spring in Japan travel blog |

Ryokan Kohro.
Ryokan Kohro was a modern building, but had traditional style Japanese guest rooms. The rooms had tatami mats, futons for sleeping, a low table, and two sit-upons with backs in place of chairs. The bathroom was Western style, albeit small. An anteroom… Bullet Train to Kyoto |
