The country town of Rutherglen is the centre of North East Victoria's wine region.

The town itself has little to offer, but is nonetheless all you'd expect of an innocent country town. The main street, which, funnily enough, is called Main Street, is home to a number of antique shops in which you'll find lots of little country treasures. It also has a neat little secondhand bookshop, and at least three bakeries to choose from. From here, you can take off on a winery tour.

Once a year, Rutherglen hosts a winery walkabout: a festival that celebrates the region's best wines. The streets of Rutherglen turn into a market, where craftmakers, winery tour operators and the like set up shop on Main Street.
