Let's face it – they're brave enough to try and inject a bit of style into a stretch of road that caters more for beer and curries.

Rush Hour themes itself around an upmarket New York diner. The food is prepared in an American style open plan kitchen perched overlooking the diners whilst a well-stocked and stylishly designed bar nestles on the opposite side of the room. The décor is modern and minimalist, embellished with a few canvases depicting New York scenes and presents a more upmarket ambience than is usual for this area.

The menu is an odd magpie like mixture of differing cuisine – European rubbing shoulders with North American vying with South American with even a smattering of Caribbean thrown into the mix. This eclectic combination, although adding to the cosmopolitan feel, could have been somewhat confusing were it not for the pared down simplicity of the menu. Rather than being divided by style it was broken down into a simple pricing structure where you chose from dishes at three set prices depending on your budget.

Service was swift and friendly and the food arrived fresh and piping hot from the kitchen. There wasn't a huge Vegetarian choice here but the pancakes stuffed with cheese and vegetables managed to be both rich and light at the same time.

Drinks are reasonable and the comfy loungers at the far end of the room serve those wishing to have a leisurely drink rather than a full blown dining experience.

The only potential downside is perhaps it's location as it is a bit out on it's own in terms of the type of place it is, and as such seemed a bit quiet for a Thursday night. That said it's a relatively new venture with plenty of potential once it's found its feet.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.
