Rusan's - Midtown Atlanta Reviews
Mar 16, 2007
OK, if you're a sushi snob (like I am with coffee), this probably won't be the hang out for you. But if you like cheap eats and sushi that is still good (and heavily Americanized) then give Rusan's a try.
Located in Midtown Atlanta, with other locations that are OTP (see my list of terms for those visiting Atlanta), this particular location is loud and always full on Fridays and Saturdays with a young, hip crowd looking for average but innovative, tasty sushi and a great time. The music is loud and the servers even louder. Just wait until you walk in the front door of the restaurant and they all begin yelling "hey shushi bar, shushi bar!". Just smile and yell back at them. They'll quickly shut up. :-)
Then menu is huge with a wide variety of cooked and uncooked items in the event you're bringing along a finicky eater or a sushi virgin. Items range from the normal fare of California rolls to the more exotic with names like "Punk Rock 'n Roll", "California Sunset", "East-West Connector", and "Georgia On My Mind". They have another section entitled Pacific Rim Cuisine where you can order cooked dishes such as seafood, chicken, beef or pork. Rusan's also has a large menu of Saki from Japan as well as both domestic and imported beer.
Like I said, if you take pride in your sushi and need to know that it's the freshest of fresh, then this isn't your place. At times, Rusan's can seem like the McDonald's of sushi in Atlanta. Sometimes average, sometimes great. I highly recommend servers by the name of "Toe-dor" and "Whuee" (those are only phonetic spellings!!). Todor is from Russia and Hui is from China. Always great service from both!
