Runyan Canyon Loop

This is a GREAT trail right in the Hollywood Hills! Though parking is difficult (and on the streets- pay CLOSE attention to road parking signs)... it's well worth it!

Once you get into the park at the top of Fuller Avenue, you'll see a gate. Just before the gate is a little stand with cheap treats and water bottles in case you forgot to bring your own. It works on the honesty system, so only take what you pay for!

Upon entering the gate, the left side will have a posting wall where people tend to advertise Yoga Classes and missing or available dogs for adoption. There is a great grassy knoll there where FREE yoga classes take place and is also great for stretching before ascending the hill.

Once you begin to ascend, you can choose to go forward and straight on the path which means that you'll be going up the loop the HARD way and down the easy way. You can choose to go left on the path which is up the Easy way and down the HARD way. They aren't kidding when they say hard. At times, it almost feels like wall climbing and your calves will definitely be a bit mad at you. Definitely a slip warning- make sure you wear good shoes with ankle support!

The views at two specific vantage points are breathtaking. You can see from downtown Los Angeles all the way to the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica beaches. One of the best views is of the Hollywood Sign due East of the Hiking path.

This is a dog-friendly path, so if you are afraid of dogs, beware! The Hollywood dogs that tend to go there are rather small and adorable though, and because the path allows them to be off-leash, most owners are smart enough to only bring dogs there that are friendly.

Overall, this is a GREAT hike, with GREAT views. Get out and do something!
