Ruins of Alcantara Reviews

Alcantara was one of the important cities for invaders of Brazil, and big slave port very close to Sao Luiz. Many palaces were built by slaves for wealthy land owners and Portuguese aristocracy, but almost all are in the state of total disrepair. Large parts of the town are now laying covered with lust vegetation, with pieces of dark ruins breaking the greens. Only few buildings around the town square are kind of fixed, and one of them hosts the city museum.
Alcantara is just a short boat ride from Sao Luiz, and should not be missed if you are in the area. Boats leave twice per day, but I think that there are other non listed boats that can take groups of people if there is a need for it. Main port is under the old Sao Luiz, but in the morning river is too shallow and bus takes you to another docking area. In Alcantara, boats stop at the main dock, and you take picturesque road to the hill.
There are few good restaurants in the city and internet is available. Brazilian Space Museum is also in the town, but for a space port you’ll need taxi or some private transport.
