Rudesheim am Rhein Vacation Guide
It's best not to take Rudesheim too seriously.
There are plenty of things to see and do for even the most hardcore traveller – traditional German architecture, several vineyards and museums, the seilbahn (cable car) and the statue of Germania that stands atop the hill overlooking the town.
On the flip side much of the town is like a theme park version of Germany – the main town street is awash with over the top souvenir shops and cliched 'traditional' bars and restaurants which cater for the swarms of (usually ageing) tourists which descend on it daily in the summer months.
It's worth visiting (even if many natives are disparaging about it's virtues) just sit back and go with the flow, have a few beers and laugh at how over the top it is.

First stop was Rudesheim - another of the places we have visited with some regularity on our trips around Germany.
Although relatively early it was already starting to build up a steady throng of tourists as the coach parties and boat trips started to offload their hordes.

Beautiful! We drove alongside the Rhine and there were castles after castles after castles! Be sure to stop by Burg Rhein Stein. It's on the west side of the river, between Koblenz and Bingen. It was my favorite out of all of them, and once you get in you're free to roam up and down towers, in and …
