Roy's Los Angeles Reviews
lively happy hour crowd Mar 04, 2008
This franchise actually serves decent food for the downtown la crowd. the happy hour bar is quite lovely and the service is very warm and friendly, and dare i say it: very hawaiian -- complete with flower behind the ear and the aloha greeting.
i had a hard day and i wanted to make life easy for me. luckily, roy's had a standard prix fixe menu for $35. i don't remember the choices but one can choose one appetizer, one entree and one dessert.
i chose the following:
1. shrimp with hazelnut roll - this was tasty. but one can't really go wrong with fried shrimp.
2. ono with crab dynamite - i was told that the ono would be served medium rare. the fish came out medium well. and that was not good for this fish. luckily, even though the fish came out overcooked, i liked the crab dynamite -- still doesn't excuse overcooked fish though. this dish came with a side of veggie roll, which was nothing exciting.
3. chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream - i enjoyed this souffle. it was rich, creamy and chocolatey.
i usually have a camera with me most of the time but i switched purses and the camera did not fit. and it was an unplanned dinner. so, i took pictures with my camera phone so the quality is not to be desired. my apologies.
