Royal Kona Resort

This is a huge resort that consists of three separate buildings. The main building has a nice design that looks like a cruise ship. The garden around the hotel is nicely landscaped and it is fascinating to see how the huge waves crash on the shoreline right in front of the hotel.
The rooms are nice and clean and equipped with a bar like facility and a small refrigerator as well. The balcony is spacious and offers nice views.
The hotel has all kind of extras like a restaurant, bar, gift shop, tour office and even a wedding room. It is also located within walking distance of the old center of Kailua Kona.
Most disappointing is that such a hotel fails to offer a complimentary parking and charges USD10 per night for a regular parking lot. One can even park for free in Kailua Kona....

Anyway, if you are based on the west coast of Big Island, this is a nice hotel for both staying around as well as for touring outside the village.

Ok, this hotel sticks out in my mind as one of the few subpar stays I've ever had... for the most part, it was pretty nice... close to the center of town, nice view to the ocean... the bad news was there were bugs everywhere in the room... at one point the bathroom sink was full of them... I don't recall what kind of bugs (I don't recall any roaches), but we were more than happy to get out of there after a couple of nights... still love Kona though :)
