An amazing, private villa Jul 22, 2013
We went to Bali to attend a wedding in the Kuta area and after this we decided to go to the Ubud area for a few days. We decided to stay on Monkey forest road to be close to other friends that we were traveling with and it seemed to be a central location for checking out Ubud. We booked the hotel on the hotel homepage as they had a special offer.

The taxi driver that took us to Ubud was not familiar with the hotel but we knew approximately where it was located so it was not that hard to find. Check in was fast and in an open air reception area and we were soon taken to our villa – number 4. When entering we were quite surprised – in most cases the room is always brushed up on the hotel homepage but in this case I can honestly say that the room was even better than expected.

When we walked in we first came to an outside resting area. The area included two sunbeds, a sofa with a couple of stools and also a table with two chairs. There was also a small fridge here, a cabinet with glasses and a microwave oven. But the outside area was dominated by the huge private pool shimmering in blue color in the bright sun. The villa was surrounded by high walls so we had total privacy it seemed like – apart from monkeys that could come visiting in the mornings.

I was also impressed by the room itself – two of the walls were in glass from floor to ceiling and it gave an amazing view of the pool and outside resting area. We stepped into the room via a sliding door and the room was with light marble tiles on the floor and with light walls. The furniture was in dark wood and included a long desk with a large flat screen TV, a huge bed that was the center piece of the room and behind the bed a dressing area with a space for the suitcase, wardrobe etc. The room was decorated delicately with artwork, vases, figures etc.

The huge bed was filled with pillows and they were a bit on the firm side. But I was impressed with the bed linens and it seemed to be good quality Egyptian cotton style linens. The wardrobe included a small safe, an iron and ironing board, robes etc. The room also included an aircon which was controlled by a remote control. Wifi was included and it was just a matter of putting in one password and then we were logged in all the time. Several bottles of water was supplied every day.

From the bedroom there was a sliding door into the huge bathroom – once again delicately decorated. The toilet was in a separate cubical but with a glass walls there was not that much privacy – I guess it would have better with frosted glass. There was also two sinks with various amenities such as shampoo, bath gel and conditioner in small jars – but also other amenities such as tooth brush, shaving kit etc. The shower corner was great with room enough for both my wife and myself and the bathroom also included a huge bathtub that also seemed to include a Jacuzzi function. From the bathroom it was possible to out to the pool and there was also an outdoor shower.

The breakfast was served either in the restaurant or in the villa. On the homepage it says “Café Overlooking a Charming Creek» - I’m not sure I would call the creek charming – it didn’t look very clean and I would not have taken a swim in it like some kids did one day. The café is just a small coffee shop and the breakfast was served a la carte and we just filled in what we wanted the evening before.

The location of the hotel was pretty good in my opinion – located in the middle of Monkey forrest road it was easy to walk everywhere to discover Ubud.

Conclusion: I can’t think of many cons when it comes to this place. Yes, there were some big spiders and some large cockroaches but what else can you expect in the tropics? We found this to be an amazing villa: huge private pool, a big room with a great view to the outside area and a large bathroom. The villa was modern and decorated in a beautiful way and it was the best villa we stayed at in Bali. The staff was friendly and helpful and we got the shuttle to take us to the restaurant Bridges one night. For us this was an amazing experience – if you want to spoil yourself for a few days this is a great place to stay.
