Royal Family Hotel Port Elliot Reviews
Better food than the expected pub grub Jan 31, 2016
S35°31.830' E138°40.838' the Royal Family Hotel is a big building with a spacious beer garden and children playground. The reason this is called “hotel”, dates back to the days that licenses only allowed pubs and restaurants to provide alcohol to the traveling public. The presence of a few rooms (which might never be used) gave some impression that the rules were being followed. Today, inside you will find a gaming and dining room and a bar. The expected level of good for this place is pub grub.
In December 2015, we ordered coconut-crumbed prawns with mango salsa & chips for AUS$22. The big plate with lot of prawns was unexpectedly delicious. Not too greasy. An enjoyable experience. The same could be said about the creamy penne carbonara for AUS$22. The pasta was al dente and the carbonara sauce had pleasant flavours.
Royal Family Hotel offered much better food than pub grub, which not only filled our stomachs but also excited out taste buds. Recommended.
