The Decameron ROCKS Jun 27, 2013
The Royal Decameron is the BEST all-inclusive resort in Montego Bay. It is right on the Hip Strip in Montego Bay and the staff is GREAT! The entertainment staff are the BEST!! they have three restaurants on site and all have AWESOME food. All rooms are ocean view and they have an AMAZING beach front. I have stayed here three times and would stay at the Decameron every time. They have snorkeling, paddle boats, kayaks, wind surf boards, and a hobie-cat all free. They have a basketball court, work-out room and hammocks everywhere. They have two pools one with a swim-up bar and five beach areas that are all different. They have flat screen TVs and cable that they customize to your home state's channels.

Montego Bay's best located beach resort! Jul 11, 2008
The Royal Decameron Beach Hotel Montego Bay is an all-inclusive beach resort. It is a relatively small and older resort hotel but very clean and well-maintained by their friendly staff.

Located less than 5 minutes from Montego Bay Airport and a 10-minute walk to MOntego Bay's Hip Strip, Royal Decameron Beach Hotel Montego Bay is a great place to stay in Montego Bay if you want an affordable, clean, well-located beach hotel.

On one side is a long, two-story building where our rooms are located. The central part of the resort is where the club, restaurant, jacuzzi, stage, main dining hall, outdoor and indoor bar, and reception are located. On the other end is a 5-story building connected with the reception hall. A heated pool, another regular pool with a swim bar, lounging area with shades, and volleyball is also located on this side. There are 2 areas where a small stretch of sand is available with beach lounges and the small stretches of sand was sufficient.

Our room and bathroom was very spacious! They clean your room everyday, unless you place the sign "Do Not Disturb". Almost all of the rooms have beach view, and because it is located close to the hotel, you can also see planes as they approach landing. It's quite a view to see those planes so close to the water!

There is only one restaurant in the resort where you are required to make a reservation, and the main dining hall where everything is buffet-style. The food is mediocre - typical of all-inclusive, but still delicious. Take this chance to venture out for better food and take advantage of the close proximity of the hotel to the Hip Strip. Try the very touristy and pricey Margaritaville (one of 4 in Jamaica) or the Pork Pit for Jamaica's famous jerk pork which I highly recommend! The drinks are okay - stick to the frozen drinks, and anything with rum is served with Jamaica's very own Appleton Rum.

The resort is fenced in from the public with a security patrolling all night.

The resort also as its own travel agency where you can book sightseeing activities.

Great resort but not a family friendly island Mar 29, 2008
Our family of five visited for Spring Break in March 2008. The Royal Decameron was a beautiful resort and we were very pleased with the two bedroom suite we were given. We had the penthouse and a view of the whole bay. The sunsets were breath taking! The elevator only held 4 people but was really intended for one wheelchair so be ready to use the stairs for the 4 floor climb. It was updated in '04 but the inside and grounds were kept up very nicely. The groundskeepers were always busy trimming and sweeping. The food was a bit different at times serving goat and kidney pie but there was variety for everyone. My kids surely didn't go hungry. There was a beach side snack shack that served pizza, burgers, hotdogs, and wings during the day. For dinner we made reservations at the restaurant that had steaks, lamb, fish, and such. The buffet was always open for B, L, and dinner. The bars are always serving and the blenders are always blending!!

The activity board is filled with fun things the activity people organize. They have sea bikes, canoes, a sailboat, snorkle equipment and lots of other fun things you can check out. This is a beach front resort so you can snorkle right there and see some amazing fish. There are two smallish pools, a hot tub, seaside lounge mats, cabanas, a sea trampoline, three piers, and two small beaches.

We had a great time but unfortunately we won't be going back. The whole island is covered in a culture of drugs. It is everywhere you look. It was offered to my 15 year old child; he was also offered a bong and alcohol to buy. The only place we could get away from it was on the resort. There is also a lot of crime. We saw someone have a walet taken right out of their back pocket from a person in a moving car.

Well thats what the guy said, safe inside the resort resort OK etc, then he gave his opinion about what happens on the steets of Montego Bay, Jamaicas second City and he didn't like it and neither do most people.
I have lived in Montego Bay for 5 years and have had my shirt pocket ripped off my chest with $6000 J in it 100m from Sam Sharpe square the centre of Mo Bay in broad day light surrounded by people, by a member of a gang that had obviously been trailing me for about 2 miles since I had drawn some money out of the bank and seen me put it my pocket in a supermarket, this was very close to the ghetto area of Mo Bay where the youth ran, where I am told the Police will not go.
As for country I once stayed in Frenchmans Cove a now failed very posh resort near Port Antonio in huge grounds, in the middle of the night it rained very hard and I went to the car to shut the window whilst I was out 3 or 4 minutes someone went into the room and stole some money from the dressing table, my girlfriend was in the room petrified, goodness knows what would have happened had she confronted the burglar. As in all 3rd world countries the poor people the poster talks of are watching you all the time waiting to pounce when you are off guard.
I love Jamaica and Jamiacans but not for the faint hearted or un street wise or those who wish a hassle free vacation. 'Unless you stay only in the resort'.

Too bad you wrote about things that happened outside the resort hotel and small strip. There are many places that are poor in Jamiaca...where alcohol and drugs in all the other cities in the U.S., Canada or Europe...however, at this resort one can just holiday and have safe fun.
What you spoke about was not the resort, but the other parts of Jamaica which is still a very poor and undeveloped country.
In relation to your last paragraph, tell me a country where you have been or will go, and I will show you a similar place that you described in your last paragraph...
Anyway...different strokes...
