A hidden gem in Vero Beach, Florida. Aug 18, 2011
While in Orlando we wanted to find a beach that wasn't popular, well known or a total tourist trap. My friend is from Wyoming and her daughter has never seen an actual beach before. So we picked the Atlantic coast and found Vero Beach that is about 2 hours south east of Orlando. Once we arrived in Vero Beach we drove south until we saw this little road side park that didn't have many cars parked at it. It had a play ground, bathrooms, showers and down a little path the most beautiful, empty beach ever! They had maybe 10 people scattered and a lifeguard stand. I also saw a tied off area for a sea turtle nest which was neat for my friends daughter to see. The water was beautiful and pretty warm (I'm use to the cold Pacific by San Francisco so any water south of that is warm to me). The beach itself was pretty clean, no litter or anything left behind that wasn't natural. There were lots of shells for those that collect them and the sand was pretty soft, not gulf coast soft but soft. I was really impressed with this beach because of the beauty and that nobody was there. It's quite a drive from Orlando but totally worth it to have a beach practically to yourself.
