Roses Hostel Montanita Reviews
Roses Hostel Jul 06, 2014
February was obviously season month in Montanita and I simply could not find the place to stay. Every hostel between the beach and the road was full, day was super-hot and my backpack very heavy and sweaty. Well, just before the little road bridge (there is only one small river going to the sea so you cant make a mistake)there is a road that goes inland, and that area is also full with hostels, camps, cabanas… everything just much calmer than center of the town. Wide dusty road is not too traveled by cars and it is lighted at night. Roses Hostel was one of the places I checked and they had cool two story building with private rooms with bath for only $10 per night. Comparing to the dorm that cost the same money just a bit down the road, this place was perfect…
There are two buildings in the compound and owner lives on the first floor of one building with his family. Roses in the front garden are probably the reason for the name of the hostel and they make a nice wall towards the dusty road. There is another garden with fruit and variety plants on the back. Two buildings make “L” and in between there is open kitchen and siting / chilling area. Kitchen is very basic but you can still make some food on the stove or maybe grill stuff on the makeshift grill. Only problem that I had in that area is lack of power plugs. WiFi internet is available and pretty strong.
Place has “homey” feeling, owners are open and friendly. There is fridge with drinks that are priced normally and you can get basic sodas, beer and water. You will have to catch owner to open the lock for that fridge because he is the only one holding keys. You get two keys, one for the gate and one for the room. Room was very good and totally to my taste. I got one on the second floor with nice comfortable bed and private bathroom. Surprisingly there were no many bugs in the room or the area, I was expecting much more mosquitos. Ceiling is pretty high and roof is made of bamboo. This building is almost totally made out of bamboo, and I love that style. I have always said that I can live in Bamboo lands hehhehe. Really good feeling and windows have dark curtains so you can sleep in for a while. Restroom is totally fine, a bit tight but nice and clean. There is no hot water, but you are in the area where that hot water is not needed at all.
Beach is not far away, just few minutes walking. Be careful when you are crossing the road because they drive really fast and don’t respect pedestrians. I did not see any places to eat on this side of the road, but on the beach side there are many choices and very good food. I am totally in love with Ecuador food. Night life and beach enjoyment is why most of the people come to this place. It is exactly that.
