Ros Beiaard and the vier heemskinderen Dendermonde Reviews
The Dendermonde Ommegang May 30, 2010
The Ommegang of Dendermonde is held every ten years in May. The last festival was held in 2010 (the one before that was held in 1990, as the 2000 ommegang was ruined by a storm), with the next due in 2020.
The parade is rather slow moving (taking around 3 hours), a moving play in 20 acts, and can be rather opaque to those without knowledge of Flemish folklore, so it is not going to be to all tastes. It is, however, rich in history, and is listed by UNESCO world heritage as a "cultural intangible".
Directly booked tickets sell out long in advance, but B-rail ran combined return train tickets from Brussels and grandstand tickets for €25 each.
