Rorbua Oslo Reviews
Eat well at Aker Brygge Mar 29, 2011
I was meeting my mother for lunch. We had agreed to find a restaurant where we could eat good fish. She suggested a nice restaurant, but when we arrived, there were only two people there. It was a very nice restaurant, but we both found it a bit boring with so few people. The restaurant is excellent, but more a place you go for dinner. So we decided to go somewhere else, but where?
Just a few steps away is Rorbua. Non of us had been there before so why not try it. In the old days, when the fishermen had to go out at see to catch their fish, they were often away from home for weeks at a time. Then the Rorbu was their second home: a place to sleep, eat, have a drink, repairing nets and other equipment before the next day at sea.
The place is informal and has a nice and warm atmosphere. It is an original place. The decor is inspired by the North Norwegian coastal environment and particularly the fishing in Lofoten. Barrels and fishing equipment are used as decoration and the bar is made in an old rowing boat. Very charming. In the summer they also have an outdoor dinning area.
The cuisine is typical Norwegian, mostly fish like grilled stockfish and bacalao, but they also serve meat (beef and veal). If you don´t want a big meal you can choose between egg & bacon, beef sandwich, chicken salad or fish soup. To compliment your meal they serve red, rosé and white wine as well as champagne and beer.
We both ordered the oven baked angler fish served with mushroom risotto. The food was top quality, the service fast and our waitress was very helpful. I can recommend Rorbua for a good meal in a warm atmosphere.
