High end Boutique type hotel in great Opera neighborhood of Madrid May 09, 2008
This place is also known as "Hotel Campomanes". My husband & I stayed here for 3 nights on a recent trip. We had Room 201. We were so excited to see that our hotel room was HUGE, even for American standards, it felt like an expansive suite! The bed was extremely comfortable. The wardrobes were large enough to really unpack your stuff and the bathrooms were pretty modern and luxurious. I really loved that we had 3 huge windows, floor to ceiling. My husband loved that they had a decent sized Plasma with premium channels!

The decor was modern, bright & minimalistic. Staff was super friendly. The neighborhood was one street off Opera & within EASY walking distance to Plaza De Oriente, Royal Palca, Puerta del Sol, shopping areas...yet the little street this hotel is on is fairly will hear things, it can't be helped on such small streets but it's normal city noises. Another great thingabout Hotel Mario was their continental breakfast that they served...absolutely yummy, lots of variety and a great way to begin the day in this fun city. I would definitely return here to this hotel.

I haven't stayed in this hotel but just saw its hall and it looked really fancy. It is very close from Puerta del Sol. Rates were quite high, If I don´t remember wrong, it was around 140€ per night. I ask for its rates, but they told me it varies and you can get them any moment in the internet. I am enclosing its web address. Next time I have to book a hotel, I will get a room there, it is just very different to what I have seen so far. The reason I found it is because next to it you have an awesome restaurant. Its name is "La viuda negra & viuda blanca". If you want to have a fancy meal go there, it´s one of those fashion places!.. :)

Ooooh! 140 per night??? That's damned expensive. I'll need to find the job of a lifetime to ever be able to afford that. But even then, I'm quite sure I'd spend the money on plane tickets rather than on hotels :)

Room Mate Mario Overview

This hotel is conveniently located in the city centre of Madrid. Access to public transport, as well as the famous Teatro Real, is near the hotel. The Palacio Real is around 100 m away, Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol are only about 300 m away. Barajas airport is around 8 km away.
Opened in 2000 and renovated in 2005, the hotel originally had 30 rooms. It was then renovated and redesigned by the highly respected designer Tomas Alia, and increased in size by 24 rooms. The designer impressed Madrid society with his innovative concept of "cheap & chic". The bold colours in the rooms are in contrast to the ones in the reception, and give the hotel its own personality. The unique hallways are black and white with translucent panels. Facilities on offer in the air-conditioned hotel include a lobby with a 24-hour reception, a music and reading area in the lobby, a hotel safe, lifts, a breakfast room "Living Room", and WLAN Internet access. There is also a laundry service available, rounding off the facilities offered at the hotel.
The Tomas Alia-designed modern and avant-garde rooms make maximum use of sunlight. All are minimally designed and come with an en suite bathroom and hairdryer, a direct dial telephone, a plasma TV, Internet access (WLAN), a minibar, a desk, a double or king-size bed, designer lighting by Philip Starck, and a safe. The air conditioning and heating are individually adjustable. All rooms have a view over the courtyard.
Guests can select their breakfast from a buffet.
All major credit cards, such as American Express, Diners Club, JCB, MasterCard and VISA, are accepted as methods of payment.
How to get there
From the airport take a taxi or the U8 in the direction "Nuevos Ministerios" to the end stop, then take the U10 in the direction "Puerta del Sur" to the stop "Alonso Martinez", then take the U5 in the direction "Casa de Campo" to "Opera". This hotel is located close to the Plaza de Opera.
