Roo bar - Vienna's authentic Aussie Pub Apr 13, 2009
Oi!

Vienna has quite a few Aussie pubs, but non of them are really authentic or run by Australians. In June 2008, Vienna got its first real Aussie Pub! The Roo bar.

The Roo bar is run by the president of the local Australian footy club and some of the barkeepers play for the Vienna Kangaroos (www.viennakangaroos.com) as well.

It's very nice decorated, lots of Australian sports stuff and other stuff which only people will understand knowing more about Australia than Ayers Rock, Fosters or Kanagroos.

The bar itself has two levels. The entrance is at street level with a few tables and a comfy bar. Downstairs you will find a massive bar where the concersts take place.

You find some decent Aussie and Austrian booze there:
Coopers, VB, Crown Lager ....
Since a few weeks the kitchen is finished offering a few little warm snakes.

Its a good place to meet Australians, English speaking expats and Australian Fans in Vienna. And if you don't want to go there alone - drope me a line.

If you want to drink Foster beer, don't come! They don't have it - and thats how it should be!

A friend of mine just opened it, really nice place. Hope that also guest like it. Its not a stereotype of an Aussie bar.

The bar had an down-under dunny, the room of the mens toilet was 5 meters high and the previous owner made a second mirror-inverted toilet on the ceilling. But you cannot see it any more :-( they covered it when the dunny was renewed.

Now you've really made me want to come to Austria! I did visit a "DownUnder Bar" in the Netherlands... but it was in the basement hence the name... LOL
