Tucson International - Dallas Fort Worth - Washington National Jun 14, 2012
I arrived at this airport last night with my two children after a change in arrival was made due to weather problems at Dallas. my original booking had us landing at Washington Dulles airport at half after midnight, however due to heavy storms in Dallas Fort Worth, our flight landed elsewhere for two hours to fuel, causing us to miss the connecting flight to Dulles. When we finally got to Dallas, we had been reassigned a new arrival airport which was Washington National. So our route ended up being Tucson International - Dallas Fort Worth - Washington National, also known as Reagan Airport.

Of course we arrived at such an ungodly hour that everything was shut down. At 3:15 am, the airport was being cleaned, which was nice in a way because I could see the interior decor without interference from people. The architecture is beautiful and the interior has such beautiful abstract and non abstract art. Since we were in a hurry to get home, however, we did not see much of it. It did look quite big and the distance we walked from arrivals to exit told me it is a big airport.

Close-in Reagan National Airport (DCA) Jun 25, 2012
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is Washington, DC's, hometown airport. It is located close-in, just across the Potomac River in Arlington, VA. The airport opened in 1941 as Washington National Airport. The Main Terminal was advanced for its time, inspired by contemporary designs at La Guardia, Templehof, and Schiphol. A new terminal for major airlines opened in 1997 and the airport was named in honor of Ronald Reagan in 1998. The airport is known for the frequent Air Shuttle service to New York, pioneered by Eastern and now operated by Delta.

Today, Reagan National is comparatively small in size, with only a single main runway. Nevertheless, it is very popular and has a large passenger and flight volume. Reagan National is principally a domestic airport. The only international arrivals come from Bermuda and points in Canada where there is US Customs Preclearance. (Other international and transcontinental flights to Washington arrive at Dulles International or Baltimore-Washington International airports.) Long-distance domestic flights are also restricted, in order to maintain a reasonable flight volume and operating hours.

Ground transportation is made easy via Washington Metro. A subway station connects to the terminals. Car parking is limited and oriented towards day or overnight trips rather than long-term travelers.

The Art Deco original Main Terminal is in use as Terminal A and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Terminal A was restored at the same time that Terminal B/C was built. Space that was once the Dining Room is used for a display about the history of the airport and Abingdon Plantation where the airport is now located.
