DAY 10- Florence to Rome
posted by:
Jul 02, 2009 – Jul 25, 2009
Most of us had a totally free day in Rome today, as not many people chose to do the guided walking tour of the Colosseum. I didn’t do it because I’d heard it just wasn’t worth it, seeing as the guide was very quiet and often didn’t feel like doing the whole thing (I don’t really know what…

Tiziana, Marcello and Claudio drove me back to the Fiumicino Airport in Rome.  Chieti actually was fog-free that day.  However, as we went further west and closer to the Lazio-Abruzzo border we found SNOW!   yes SNOW!  I mean snow to the point it was BLIZZARD SNOW!  We got …

Everything has gone according to schedule so far.  I got up on time, the shuttle came on time, the airport was uneventful, and the flight from Phoenix to DC was actually early.  I had thought I would have 45 minutes at Dulles, but when I got off the plane with my next gate information in …

Leaving Rome

There weren't any cheap flights to Anglet, so I decided to take a meticulously planned train ride (consisting of numerous transfers at small stations) from Rome to the southwest coast of France. Unfortunately, the success of the route hinged upon relatively short transfer times, and my first tr…

Roman Holiday

I'm finally in Rome! And I have to say I'm already in love with it. I like how it has that classic Italian charm, but it's still a big city. I love how so many people are out at night. This city just seems so alive. I definitely feel like I'm having my own Roman Holiday. Today we visited the Palaz…

Well, today is my last day here.  I am spending the day wandering parts of the city I have not yet ventured into.   I have so far visited Piazza Polopo, which is just a block from the apartment.  There was a very odd art exhibit going on there - I took some interesting pics…

Rome is one of the great cities of the world - a mixture of centuries, mostly a blend of ancient Rome and Renaissance Christianity. Art and sculpture overwhelm; best to limit museums to 2 hours a day. The list never ends ... Coleseo, Forum, St. Peter's, Sistine Chapel, Piazza Navonna, Pantheon, shopping, gelato! I love to "feel the ghosts" at night in shadow lit piazzas. Take in a Bernini masterpiece dining al fresco or an opera at Caligulas Baths. Go cafe hopping on the Via Veneto. Ciao!

I leave Siena, and it takes me a while to get back to Rome. I would not get to visit the Vatican Museum, since it was closed by the time I got there. My main issue will be getting a room. I got to Termini station, and went to the same hostel as before. But it was completely booked. I tried a few ot…
