It's 6am and I've been up for about an hour and a half whiling away my last few moments in Rome. The distinct smell of baby spit is permeating something.. I can't figure out if it's my hair or my sweater. Spending 2 days away from sometimes screaming, sometimes smiling and always charming Asia really broke my heart for some reason. I missed her so much while I was away and I am sad to know that I probably won't see her for at least another year and a half. By then, she'll be an entirely diffe...

Next we actually had set some goals for our walk around Rome, just to make sure that we didn’t miss one of the mayor sites in Rome; The Trevi Fountain. The fountain at the juncture of three roads (tre vie) marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua Vergine, the revivified Aqua Virgo, one of the ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient Rome.
We walked to the Metro after a late breakfast and decided to get off already at the second station towards the city centre; Piramide. The t...

Two J Club members meet in Italy! J4 and J5 maybe?????????
The idea for this trip was conceived a few months ago while chatting with Jennifer(Jenn79) about our travels. She had suggested meeting up somewhere but the timing just was not right yet. Jennifer had told me that she was going to Rome in April and asked if I wanted to go. Well of course I would! I kept an eye out on the flights and it continued to look good for me to get to Rome, so I b...

I got a message recently from Adrian (hancock826) asking me about a picture she had taken in Italy. She had a great panoramic shot of the Colosseum and wanted my advice on how to get rid of a couple of white vans that rather detracted from the photo. She is quite familiar with photoshopping skills herself, so it was just a matter of finding out what I would do to rid the area of those pesky vans. I told her to send me the original and I’d see what I could do. My firs...

Again, rising just before the sun, we scrambled to gather things so
that we could get our free chocolate croissants and orange juice before
we left this hostel with terribly uncomfortable beds. Hotel in Paris
here I come! We got checked out on the way to the train station at,
like, 6 in the morning... really? REALLY? That was another thing about
Rome-- lots of gross guys hitting on you and checking you out. Not fun.
Anyway-- wheeled suitcases over the cobblestone to the train statio...

English version can be found below!

TREVI FOUNTAIN
I was blessed to start my birthday in a 12th century castle in Tuscany (see my Florence, Siena, Montalcino blog) and end it on the renowned Via Veneto in Rome (July 27, hence my handle, travelman727).
One of my day’s favorite moments was seeing Trevi Fountain.
The first fountain at the site was built in 1453 by Pope Nikolas V, financed from wine taxes. In 1732, Clemens XII ordered the current fountain to be built and...

This was already the last day in this amazing city! :(
At 9am we had to come together and took the bus to Tivoli.
First we visited this place, all with waterfalls and beautiful gardens!
A place to stay for one day and just being happy, smiling and relaxing. But.. unfortunately we had to go back to Holland!
We have had a lunch together for the last time. We drove back to the Airport but had to wait so long.. L Didn’t like to be back in Holland again..
Hope to come b...

We arrived back in Rome just in time to grab an early dinner and head
to the Circus Maximus to watch the soccer match. Tens of thousands of
people had crowded into the ancient track to watch the game unfold upon
three big screens. When Italy scored, hundreds of Italian flags went up
throughout the crowd, creating a sea of red, white, and green. After
Italy won, the masses took to the streets, cheering, screaming and
generally working its way through the city. Tiny cars packed full of

We were five "ladies" on our first trip to Rome.
The sun was shining, the pasta was great and I had 4 good friends to share all my new experiences with. What more could you ask for...?

The plan for today was: wake up late the visit San Pierto and go to Napoli. The reality today was: i woke late, then went to the Termini (main station) bought ticket at the ticket vending machine and checkt the schedule...from this moment i was ready for all, cuz i didn't know what would happen and where i might be next days... all trains had indications "sorpresso" - cancelled - because of 'sciopero' = strike. There were maybe 5% of trains which were running but u never know which ones and ho...

We read in our travel guide that it could be very busy in Vatican City when you want to visit St. Peter. We decided to visit this church in the morning and we were just on time. Five minutes after we entered the row in front of the church the row became bigger and bigger. We were so happy that moment that we were so early.
So lucky we were that moment, so unhappy we were when we wanted to visit the Vatican Museum. We left St. Peter square and the row for the Vatican Museum started d...

Rome was the city we had the least amount of time for on the trip; that means that although we had only arrived at nearly noon the day before, we only had until 5:00 pm today before we had to be at the station to catch our train up to Parma.
The original plan had been to go see the Vatican; although we'd seen it from the outside the day before, we wanted to go check out the inside. Sadly, after the "Great night of Prosecco, wine, and tequila of 2006" that had been the nigh...

Having stayed an extra night in Naples has screwed us up a bit. We need to get moving. We have a lot of things to do in Rome. The first train leaves really early. We are determined to be on it. We wake up early, pack up and check out and run to the train station. TO ONCE AGAIN SEE THE TRAIN LEAVING WITHOUT US. We had missed it by seconds. We dropped our bags and sat on the floor. A bit discouraged, we had woken up so early and missed the train and now had to wait another hour for the next one...

Geared up for the final match, Eric and I wanted to watch the game on a big piazza with thousands of people. We were told that Piazza del Popolo would be packed, so we headed there, only to find that there was no screen, and about 4 people waving flags. In a state of panic, we asked some police where everyone would be. "Circo Massimo," they replied.
Of course! The Circus Maximus was a venue for epic chariot races in ancient times, holding more people than the Coloseum. Tonight it would be t...
