We walked everywhere, even at night. I would just suggest not taking any dark streets and walk with another person, but that is just common sense. It really depends on where you stay though. We stayed in the city, so everything was really within walking distance.

Rome is a very easy walking city. I walked from Vatican City past the Colosseum. Took a while but it was worth it. The city is beautiful! Walking just helps you enjoy the sights even more.
