Roman Tarragona Reviews
A Step into the past Feb 29, 2012
Tarragona, a short or long drive from Barcelona has a lot to offer; mainly with nice beaches and good food. What I didn't except was the constant reminder that this place used to be a big deal back in Roman Times, and they ain't afraid to show up.
The big roman item ( and by the far the most interesting) is the ancient aquaduct located a few miles outside of town. The ancient ruins are in good shape and must be restored on a regular basis. The aquaduct has a large park you can hike to. The best part is there is a hill you can climb up, and then you can walk through the aquaduct, luckily it no longer transports water.
One interesting thing is that there were a lot of people walking their dogs through the ruins... the dogs must love the 2000 + years of anceint smells on the site.
Other ruins permeate the city. The most notable ruin the arena where gladiators used to fight each other for people's entertainment.
Finally on Friday night after dinner I was walking through the old city, where I stumbled upon a marching Roman Legion... sure beats marching band right?
