Not your average night out in London Jan 26, 2015
Let's face it, in London you aren't short of places to go on a night out but lets be honest, most are the same. You have the pubs/bars/clubs/theatres that everyone goes to. Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that. But when it came to my birthday i was looking for something different....

And i found it! I love dressing up and being active so this was a perfect night out for me. So me and my friends got all dressed up in our best neon gear and headed down to Vauxhall for the night.

Tickets cost between £10-£15 depending on which night you go and you have the option of buying tickets online in advance or on the door. As far as i know they always have tickets available on the door. There's a different line for people who have pre booked but there's never a long queue to get in so it doesn't really make too much difference.

They provide a cloakroom with the standard £1 fee. Handy as you need your hands to help you balance! Then you go inside to collect your skates and pads which are included in your ticket price. Then once you're strapped in the fun begins :)

The venue is quite small but as big as it needs to be. They have 2 rooms for you to enjoy. The back room seems to be for the better skaters so only enter there once you're feeling confident. But if you are nervous and a little rusty, relax, they have staff skating around happy to help you out.

As well as the 2 skating areas, the venue has 2 bars and plenty of sofas for relaxing when you need a little break from skating. They also have a little balcony area if you need some fresh air or a cigarette. And one thing i was very grateful for was the hand rails on the toilet cubicles!

I must say, this was one of the best nights out i had in a long time. It's like being a kid again. You just unwind and have fun. It was so good i have been back since. This time dressed up for the Halloween party :P and the second time i went i almost won a pair of skates in the skate off. If only the witch hadn't tripped me :(

But for the serious stuff. There are a few rules to place for health and safety reasons. You're not allowed to take your drinks onto the floor (for obvious reasons!). This is actually a rule i like as you are normally having so much fun skating, you don't feel the need to drink constantly. So not only do you save money on the night out, you also don't have the horrible hangover the next day!

So i encourage all people looking for a fun, unique night out in London to come check this place out. Trust me when i say you won't be disappointed!

Intoxicated Neon Tutu-Wearing Roller Skating Apr 02, 2011
So you've had enough of the usual scene in London and are ready to try something simply awesome?! Welcome to the venue that rents you out your very own cool looking roller skates (seriously!) for a night, while letting you purchase alcohol at the same time. Recipe for disaster?! Depends how good your skills are!

I love roller skating and dressing up, but that combination is very hard to find. Not far from Vauxhall Station (Just grab a train for one stop from Waterloo) you will find The Renaissance Rooms which boast two large rooms, with 80's and R'n'B music and an outside area in case you need to take a break from all that rolling around. There are also sofas everywhere in case you haven't learnt to stop on those retro skates yet (yes they're the two wheels and then another two wheels kind). Most people dress up in neon clothing, hot pants, tutus and other fun gear and either fumble their way dangerously around or show off their awesome moves on the wooden dance floor. And in case you were wondering... yes you do have to go to the toilet in those skates - just be careful! :P

I'd definitely recommend this venue for a night out with a difference! (Skate hire/entry is between £8 and £15 depending on what day and what time you show up - check the website for more details.)
