by far the best nightlife venue in beautiful Galway. A must see if you're visiting the city. Dec 22, 2010
Here's a review of this place I did for a Belfast music magazine article entitled '30 reasons to be cheerful':

Ask any Irish musician what the best venue in Ireland, and a disproportionately huge number will name Galway’s contemporary music uber-hub. Guided by the brilliant Gugai and luring in the locals with a selection of top-end talent playing week in, week out in a room that’s, frankly, bordering on insultingly intimate, this is the west’s place to be. The venue’s home to the iconic ‘Strange Brew’, a weekly club night that’s featured half the Irish bands you’ve ever heard of (and costs absolutely nothing) and has branched out into bringing mammoth names to the west by hosting gigs in the city’s sizable Radisson Hotel. Throw in one of the city’s cheapest pints and friendly regulars, and you’d be a fool not to try it.

I used to live just down the road from this place, and I really can't emphasize enough how friendly, outgoing and musically forward-thinking the venue is. It's consistently won awards for the best live music venue in Ireland, despite being notable small, and has a great local crowd of quite incredible friendly people. Get in the back room and imagine the likes of Modest Mouse, Snow Patrol, Mercury Rev, Jose Gonzalez and Ryan Adams playing somewhere so intimate. Why? Because it really happened.

If you're having any doubts at all, just GO!
